Sweatfree States

Get Your State to Join the Sweatfree Purchasing Consortium!

The governors of Maine, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania have already committed to working together to make sure their states aren't buying from sweatshops. Now we need to build on this commitment and ask governors across the U.S. to join the Consortium as well. Ask your Governor to take this important step!

Take action:
1. Ask your governor to join the Consortium. Here's a sample letter to use. Your action is most effective if you follow up with a phone call to your Governor's office.
2. Send us a note to let us know that you took action.
3. Spread the word! Ask your friends to take action!
4. Endorse the campaign.

A sustained grassroots effort is most effective. To find out who else is taking action in your state and how to join or form a local sweatfree coalition, contact us.

Further details...
California, Illinois, Maine, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Vermont all have laws requiring sweatfree purchasing. Click here for the details. If your state already has a sweatfree policy on the books, the next step is to ask the state to join the Sweatfree Purchasing Consortium to put the policy into action by pooling resources with other states and cities for independent monitoring of working conditions in supplier factories and collaborating in sweatfree procurement. If your state does not yet have a sweatfree purchasing policy, the Governor can sign on to the Consortium now as a provisionary member and then pass a sweatfree procurement law.
